I lived on Darīh Sa’d Street and thought that the neo-Pharaonic tomb at the far end was eerie. If I’d known that mummies had been buried there too, I’d have thought it was even more eerie, but then again perhaps even less, because in Egypt the distance between its pharaohs and modern leaders seemed to me only a short stroll from one end of my street to the other.
